Where do I start? With an introduction.
Hi,
I’m Sean Wright (aka SB wright) I am a lapsed poet (though this year I hope to change that), a Teacher Librarian and Student of Practical Philosophy. Some time ago I won a couple of Ditmar Awards. I live on unceded Narungga / Kaurna country. My pronouns are He/Him.
My longform poetry blog can be found at Words Poetical, but as I said I am a lapsed poet, so I don’t think there’s much there past 2020. Most of my Japanese form poetry can be found at Magpie Song. If you want to follow me on the socials I am on the Fediverse via Mastodon at @sbwright@mas.to
1. Why this, why now ?
I am determined, after 2 years of covid, to get back in to some sort of creative practice. Work as a fulltime teacher has sucked the creative blood out of me and this Newsletter/Blog forms part of my attempt to do that - claw back some personal creativity and creative exploration. I plan to work on a range of Japanese poetry forms (that will be posted on Magpie Song) and to carry on discussions, or explorations of the form here. There will be some cross posting.
2. What kind of community are you looking to build here
I often find that Haiku and other short Japanese forms in English, tend to feel ephemeral(apt considering the oft discussed theme of impermanence within the form). This page is my attempt to pin my thoughts on the various forms down, for myself and others. I’ll write reviews and essays and point you towards good information.
3. Posting schedules
I’ll try and post once a week and I can’t envisage this page ever becoming a paying gig. So I’ll say that with 99.9 % certainty …these haiku will remain free.
